The world's best customer service

I received this email today:

Dear Lily B,

Your Epson $20.00 rebate check has been sent via 1st class mail on
12/28/2006. Please allow adequate time for delivery.

Sincerely,

Epson Rebate Administrator

It doesn't seem like anything out of the ordinary until you read the date that my check was sent.

I haven't recently bought anything from Epson that was eligible for a rebate, so the only logical conclusion is that they are anticipating my buying habits and have already issued a rebate check for a future purchase. That, and Epson has obviously perfected time travel.

Rather unrelated, but I have a silly story about “the strangest piece of mail I ever received.”

A few years ago, I sent in for a “Be Green” bumper sticker using the address on the Annie’s bunny noodles box. I enclosed the requisite dollar (or two?) and a self-addressed stamped envelope as requested.

My “Be Green” bumper sticker never arrived, but some time later, my SASE arrived in the mail. In it was nothing but a single, square, color photograph (the kind from circa 1960’s or 70’s) of two older women in a salon with those big silver cone things over their heads, staring at the camera in a most spinsterly fashion.

I was disturbed and amused all at the same time. When I wrote to Annie’s, they had no clue what that was all about (and sounded equally disturbed, yet amused). Being the kind bunny-noodle-people that they are, Annie's sent me a bumper sticker anyways.

This would be way funnier if I could show you the picture, but you'll have to just take my word for it!

The whole experience was so strange, and the picture so ridiculous, that I’ve kept it in my filing drawer. It's got to be worth some inspiration in a story somewhere down the line!

That's a great story! I would love to have that happen to me.

Cool. Maybe Epson will be contacting me sometime soon, too. I've never bought any of their products, either! :)

Hmm...that's definitely something different. Someone in their marketing department is pretty creative, eh? So, by receiving that check from Espson - does it encourage you to purchase something from them in the future?

I hope more companies start doing this.

It'll be really spooky if I actually do get a check.
