Pimpin’ the Cheese

This is kind of a weird thing to blog about, but I'm not going to let that stop me. I remember eating many a grilled cheese sandwich as a kid and loving every one of them. Buttery toasted bread, gooey dripping cheese. . .mmmm, heaven. My mom spread on a little mustard before grilling, which added a nice tang. Now that I'm all grown up an adult, I still enjoy a good grilled cheese sandwich, but not with the same passion. Until now:

I discovered this cheese over the weekend at our local grocery store. It's an aged white cheddar with just a touch of sweetness. I initially worried that the mustard seeds would make it a little crunchy, but that wasn't the case. It was especially good between slices of yesterday's loaf of sourdough bread, paired with Tuscan Tomato Basil bisque. All hail the grown-up grilled cheese sandwich! I think I'm in love.

Cheese, dark chocolate and good crusty bread are my favorite foods. I've never tried Asiago in a sandwich, but I like it on everything else.

I had a friend once who always ordered American on her sandwiches at lunch. I asked her if she actually preferred it to other cheeses and it turned out that she was afraid to try anything else. I took her to the store for lunch the next day and bought three different cheeses, bread and fruit. She absolutely loved it, so we made it a regular event while I lived in Arizona.

Please do link to me and thank you!

I just had a grilled cheese sandwich and fries for lunch actually! ;-0 My hubby likes all those gourmet cheeses from France etc., because he's from Europe and I think cheese is a bigger deal over there.

I don't know if it's my Italian genes coming to the surface or what but I love good cheese. Before the cheese stall moved/closed/disappeared, my traditional lunch at Pike Place Market in Seattle was a thick slice of hard Argentinian parmesan from a giant wheel, a round of fresh sourdough and fresh fruit from the vendors.

This magazine I was reading over the weekend had a great section on making gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches, but the title escapes me right now.

I'm so pleased that you all don't think I'm a lunatic for blogging about a grilled cheese sandwich.

Crystal, if you happen to remember, please pass it on.
