Hurricane Katrina
Ironic, Don't You Think..

I've been reading many news stories, personal accounts and personal opinions of the hurricane and relief efforts this past week and I'm impressed by the magnitude of the response by this country and by the world. I've seen many people question the lack of action by the international community, and I have to say: if you think the world isn't paying attention and is letting America suffer on it's own, think again.

This is only one of many articles that pop up from a simple Google search. Those of you familiar with the photo sharing site Flickr, may be interested in this fundraising effort:

And finally, this article blows me away.
Taking refuge in the Astrodome
To think that this kid had the nerve to take the initiative to rescue so many people and think he could get away with it. That he could actually steal an abandoned bus. . .I don't know what's to become of this country with this kind of dangerous criminal on the loose.

Sorry about the word verification, guys. This post prompted immediate spam.
My posts are getting spammed a lot too lately but I find it easier to just delete the spam comments rather than subject everybody else to word verification. Great post btw Lily! If anyone is to blame for the looting, chaos, and "civil unrest", it's the gov't officials who failed these people with their lack of planning.
Lily, I have been saying it again and again that to people like me sitting in not such a rich country it seems so strange that the response came so late from a government that has resources to do something.
I have yet not started word verification (not too many spams as of yet) but I do not mind them too much.
Thanks, Crystal. I think it was the photo I posted from Flickr that attracted the spam. It was showing up faster than I could delete it, so I turned word verification on. I'll turn it off and try it without on another post.
I'm just baffled that everyone with authority seemed to be standing around with their hands in their pockets. I KNOW that organizing a relief operation is a lot of work, but there are people who's job it is to plan ahead, be prepared and jump into action when needed. Arrrgh!
Mridula, it's just as strange to us here, which I'm sure you've noticed. I am, however, proud to see all of my fellow Americans who didn't hesitate before jumping in to help in any way they could, and grateful to everyone around the world who have offered help, regardless of their political feelings.
