New Zealand, here we come!

It's official. We have honest-to-goodness, real-live confirmed tickets going to New Zealand next year. Using our frequent flyer miles, no less. We'll be taking advantage of our free layover to spend three days in Sydney, then going to New Zealand for six weeks. Woohoo!

Congrats! That is so exciting! Are you going to check out the filming sites for the Lord of the Rings movies?

JLB, thanks, we're very excited. We've talked about visiting the LOTR locations. We're both fans of the movies/books so it's highly likely.

Mridula, very true! :)

We really are. Of course it's not by accident; we've been working toward being able to do serious traveling for years and a lot of our choices have been guided by that goal. India was our first dream trip, although there's still so much we still want to see that it's staying on the list!

I was so in love with this quiet dark film called The Piano about a decade ago (the soundtrack is exquisite). Ever since then New Zealand has really fascinated me, but with that part of the world being so far away it's doubtful that I'll be traveling there anytime in the near future. Best Wishes for having another dream trip!

I've never seen the Piano but I'll have to add it to my list. I keep finding pictures of different parts of New Zealand that make me want to go there more and more. It's amazing how much diversity is in a relatively small country.

By the way, how long did it take to get to Africa?

Lily, it took roughly 9hrs to get to London (I flew from D.C. to Montreal to London) and then 8hrs from London to Nairobi. Fortunately I had a 3 day stopover in London each way. I think 14hrs is about average from the East Coast USA to East Africa and there are no direct flights as far as I know.

That's not as long as I would have thought, actually. We're looking at 3 hours to LA, 13 to Sydney, a three-day layover there and then another 3 hours to New Zealand.
